MegaMillions Lotto jackpots start at $12 million and increase every draw until the jackpot is won by all six numbers being matched.  In May 2000, the jackpot reached $363 million--a record for the largest jackpot for any lottery played in the US to date.  Jackpots average $80 million.  Since this is a multi-state lotto, millions of people play each draw and jackpots climb to higher levels at a faster rate.  If there are multiple winners, the jackpot is divided equally among them.

To play, you can either select the numbers you play on each ticket by selecting the quick-pick option to have the lottery computer pick your numbers at random or you can select your own lucky numbers.  When you play specific numbers, you select 5 unique numbers from 1 to 56 and then a MegaBall number from 1 to 46.

MegaMillions jackpots are paid either in a single lump sum or in annual payments over a 26 year period.  Your tickets will have the lump sum cash option pre-selected, but you may change your mind and if you desire select the annual annuity at the time that you claim your jackpot.

You can win in any of 9 ways and 1 in every 40 tickets purchased wins.  You can win a prize by simply matching only the MegaBall number.   Remember, you do not have to be a citizen or resident to win and collect your jackpot.
